In summer 2011, Alexanders won the tender for a series of moves and storage during the build of the new school. Whilst it was constructed over two years most of the students were placed in purpose built, temporary ‘decant’ premises.
The first phase of the move was to take the entire contents of The Village School temporarily into our London storage facility with part of the school equipment staying long term and part of it going to the temporary premises. To ensure the items ended up in the right place, we used an asset list and developed a colour coded labelling system to track it.
“Over 5,000 labels, 2,000 crates and 50 rolls of bubble wrap later, the move out of The Village School was completed in just two weeks”
Despite the construction of the temporary premises being behind schedule, we successfully moved all the right equipment into the right classrooms for the start of the autumn term.
We worked closely with the Deputy Head Teacher, Russell Davey, and the schoolteachers to minimise disruption and to make the transition as smooth and as timely as possible.
Russell Davey, Deputy Head of the Village School said: “The move was efficiently planned and carried out in a friendly and professional manner. Alexanders accommodated all our last minute changes of plan ensuring that the move was as stress free as any major move can be!”
In summer 2013, we completed the final phase of the removal with everything moved from the temporary decant school to the new premises and all the equipment that was in storage moved into the new school on time for the start of term.
The pupils are now settled into a state of the art school with fantastic facilities. With its ethos of community involvement, this should surely be a transformative educational experience and is certainly a project that we’re proud to have been a part of.
