It’s important to pack wine glasses and other breakables carefully when moving house to avoid any nasty surprises when you open your boxes at the other end. Our professional packing team has put together a short video guide showing you how to pack wine glasses for moving and what packing materials you will need to do the job.
How To Pack Wine Glasses For Moving
- Make sure that each wine glass is wrapped individually with bubble wrap checking that the stem of the wine glass is completely protected.
- Always make sure that each wine glass is packed upright in the box. Wine glasses should never be packed lying on their sides, as they will be more likely to break.
- Ensure that there are no voids in the box by filling any spaces with crunched up paper. This stops the wine glasses moving around when being transported.
- Use strong packing tape to completely seal the box both length ways and horizontally so that it does not open during the move.
- Be sure to clearly label the box so that those carrying it know that the contents are delicate and breakable. Mark the box ‘FRAGILE’.
- Mark on the box the room where you want the wine glasses to end up. If you want them to be delivered to the kitchen then label the box ‘Wine Glasses – Kitchen’. We use a specialist colour-coding system to make sure all boxes end up in the correct room.
What Materials Do I Need To Pack Wine Glasses?
- A small box/carton – Always user a small box or carton to pack wine glasses for moving. Large boxes get too heavy and there is a risk of them either breaking or being dropped due to the weight.
- Bubble wrap – We recommend you cut bubble wrap to size. Try cutting it to these dimensions c.20 x 50 cm.
- Packing tape – use good quality, strong packing tape to secure your boxes.
- Packing/Wrapping paper – Wrapping paper is used to fill spaces in the boxes as described above.
- Scissors – you are going to need some good quality scissors to cut the bubble wrap and packing tape.
- Coloured stickers – Our professional packing team use a colour coding system so that boxes end up in the correct rooms. You can use coloured stickers or use marker pens to colour in plain stickers.
- Pens – You will need a pen to mark your boxes clearly. Coloured markers are also useful.
